Sensei Marc’s Bio:

In 1975 Sensei Mebis started studying the arts of Ju-jutsu, Okinawa kobudo, and of course Iai-jutsu and Iaido. In addition he also trained in karate, Kosho Ryu Kempo, Shinto Ryu ken-jutsu, Onna Ha Itto Ryu Kenjutsu, Nitten Ichi Ryu Kenjutsu, and Shindo Muso Ryu jodo.

After nearly twenty years of experience in the martial arts, he started his own school, Yamato-ryu, in 1993, teaching yamato-ryu ju-jutsu, Okinawa kobudo, and Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu Iai-jutsu.

Mebis Sensei then began training at the Jikishin-Kai International in 1999. Training consisted primarily of Iaijutsu and Kenjutsu. Sensei Marc Mebis eventually became the European Shibu-Cho of the Nippon Kobudo Jikishin-Kai International (JKI) and head instructor for Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iai-jutsu in Europe for which he coordinated all iai-jutsu activities for his teacher the late Masayuki Shimabukuro Hanshi.

His duties included teaching students from different European countries as well as bringing these people in contact with Hanshi Shimabukuro. Becaise of this. he is also a recognized Iai-jutsu instructor for the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai based in Kyoto, Japan and is still considered the most senior European student of the late Shimabukuro Masayuki Hanshi.

Marc Mebis has also trained in Onno Ha Itto Ryu Kenjutsu for years with the 17th headmaster of the Sasamori Style, after the death of Sasamori Soke the training was continued by his successor Yabuki Soke.

At the Hombu dojo in San Diego, California USA, he was taught Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu Iai-jutsu, Shinto-Ryu kenjutsu, Onna Ha Itto Ryu Kenjutsu and Shindo Muso Ryu Jo-jutsu. He also received instruction from Miura Takeyuki Shihan, the 20th headmaster of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iai-jutsu from Osaka, Japan.

After the passing of Shimabukuro Hanshi in 2012, Marc Mebis remained the Shibu-cho of Europe to support the Kokusai Nippon Budo Kai in carrying on the legacy of Shimabukuro Hanshi under the leadership of successor Carl long Hanshi.

In 2021, Sensei Marc Mebis made the decision to retire from KNBK after more than 22 years of service to reactivate his own organization, the Yamato -Ryu Nippon Budo Kai. With this effort, Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaijutsu is trained according to the principles of the Masaoka line within this style. In addition, other Japanese martial arts are also supported within the organization. Within the YNBK there is a great expertise of very experienced teachers in various Japanese martial arts so that a lot of knowledge can be exchanged.
